Our Instructor, George, a keen sportsman, was a County class swimmer with Wallasey Swimming Club in his youth. A keen mountaineer, he skied and climbed extensively, Summer and Winter, in Britain and Europe for the next 40-odd years, becoming a ‘dry-slope’ Ski Instructor along the way. He found time to fit in Whitewater canoeing and became a Canoe Lifeguard. Sea canoe expeditions off the Welsh and Scottish coasts were to follow. Having retired from work he became a Swim Teacher and opened his own very successful Swim School ‘WaterBabies’ to pass on his enthusiasm and to provide the children with an essential life skill. Although now 72 years old George shows no sign of ‘winding-down’ he still loves skiing, goes mountain biking, and finds time to play Golf.
Our Receptionist, Elaine, George’s wife, has, along with George, been instrumental in running ‘WaterBabies’ since we opened it in 1999. Keenly interested in the children’s welfare she keeps them amused by making faces behind George’s back and getting them to play tricks on him! Although a non-skier her claim to fame is that on one of George’s Ski holidays she went up in a ‘Microlite’ to get a better view of the French Alps - the rest of the holiday she spent in the hot tub!
Run the ‘mouse’ over Elaine’s Photo!
